Holy Spirit teachers – in class since October – get Covid-19 vaccinations

FAIRFIELD — A group of teachers at Holy Spirit School – many teaching children on campus since October – received their first of two Covid-19 vaccinations last week and await their second dose.

Teachers at Holy Spirit are teaching children in kindergarten through eighth grade both on campus and remotely.

The private school has had about 240 students enrolled for the current academic year. A little over half of the students have returned to campus. The school has been following a detailed safety protocol since October to allow for safe, in-person instruction for the families that wanted or needed that option.

Staff at the school found some relief came last Wednesday when the teachers received a link from Solano County allowing them to register for their vaccine appointments. The school day ended early Friday so the teachers who wanted their first doses of the vaccine – but had not been eligible to receive it – could participate.

The second shot will be administered to the teachers March 19. The school was already planning to not have classes that day due to professional development and training. Now, the teachers will be able to get their second doses.
