‘I thank God he’s OK’: 7-year-old boy survives shooting



If you take a quick glance at Diondray Meridy, you’d have no idea how strong he is; it’s not until you learn why he’s wearing a cast on his arm that you’d get the bigger picture. The 7-year-old was shot in the finger Sunday afternoon. Diondray’s mother said she dropped him off at a family member’s house near 33rd and Maple Street on Sunday, when she got a call just hours later that Diondray had been shot. “It was very scary: Who wants to get a phone call that their kid got shot?” said Tyzania Williams.Williams said she rushed to pick up Diondray and immediately took him to the emergency room.”I was panicking,” said Williams.The mother said she still doesn’t know what led up to the shooting, nor does she know who shot her son. Williams said she is hearing different things from family members and police. ” said that he doesn’t know ,” said Williams. “He said he was sitting on the couch watching TV, his uncle was on the phone, and his brother was playing. All he knows is that he got shot in the finger.”Omaha Police confirmed with sister station KETV that a 15-year-old boy faces charges in the case. One count of felony assault and another count of use of a weapon to commit a felony. “I’m happy he’s fine,” said Williams. “I thank God he’s OK, because it could’ve been worse.”Watch the video above to learn more about this story.

Omaha Police confirmed with sister station KETV that a 15-year-old boy faces charges in the case. One count of felony assault and another count of use of a weapon to commit a felony.

“I’m happy he’s fine,” said Williams. “I thank God he’s OK, because it could’ve been worse.”
