Pregnancy is a period in a woman’s life when a lot of the emotions she feels is mixed. The first few months can be very challenging for some, while it can just be very smooth for others. The most important fact is that the symptoms of pregnancy in the first month differ in all women. The joy of being pregnant is one thing that helps some women to scale through the stress that comes with it. For others, nothing helps to ease the way they feel once they get pregnant. I, on the other hand, did not have the best experience with all my pregnancies. Right from my first pregnancy, straight through to my last, I had all the symptoms you could think of. I used to envy women who never complained of having any stressful pregnancy symptoms and thought of them as being very lucky.
The first month of pregnancy can be a bit scary, especially when it’s your first time getting pregnant. The thought of not knowing what to expect can be overwhelming and tough to deal with. Missed Menstrual Period
This is the obvious one that most women notice as the first symptom of pregnancy. The missed period is like an alarm clock that tells you something is amiss and needs to be checked out. This is when we decide to buy a pregnancy test kit to find out if we are pregnant or not. We may even go as far as visiting the hospital to carry out some tests to be sure of the exact cause of the missed period. There are some instances where a missed period does not mean that one is pregnant. It is advisable to seek medical help when this is the case.
This is a symptom that happens mostly in the first month of pregnancy, it can make you feel light-headed. This can occur intermittently or randomly, especially when you least expect it. Let’s not forget to mention how annoying this can be for a first time mum. Though not all women experience dizziness as one of the symptoms of pregnancy in the first month, it does happen to most. Therefore, it is important to know that this is one of the symptoms, so as not to get frightened when it happens.
This is one symptom that I had all through my pregnancies in the first month. Feeling nauseous can cause a pregnant woman to vomit without any warning. As for me, it was mostly triggered by any kind of strong smell from food or my surroundings. I could hardly keep my food down and to make matters worse, I equally struggled to keep down water. This I found out is not very common, but a few other women I know experienced the same thing.
More On The Symptoms Of Pregnancy In The First Month Tiredness
This is very common with pregnant women in the first month, you will always feel unusually tired. Feeling very tired throughout the day without doing many activities is one symptom that will be experienced most of the time. The only thing that you can do at this point is to rest as much as you can and taking things easy. There are a lot of hormonal changes going on in the body as a result of being pregnant and the effects will be beyond your control most times. You will notice that you are always feeling sleepy throughout the day without any explanation as to why. Having different types of cravings are symptoms of pregnancy in the first month. At this point, you may be craving for things you never thought you would crave for. Your desire for a certain food, fruits, sweets and chocolates may heighten to an uncontrollable level. Worst still, it can even be a combination of food which ordinarily you would not eat. I spoke to several women who shared their experiences about their urge to always eat out all through their pregnancies in the first month. They no longer find home-cooked meals appealing, some even go as far as packing up their ovens, to avoid cooking.
Symptoms Of Pregnancy In The First Month
I know many pregnant women do not experience this until their third trimester, but I, on the other hand, had this symptom in my first month. I know that there are other women, who also have this symptom early in pregnancy. Therefore this is one symptom that should not come as a surprise when it happens. This can be caused by a rapid increase in the hormone progesterone which slows down your digestion. As a result of this, you may notice some swelling in the ankle area and around your feet. You can help the situation by not standing for too long, make sure you support your legs with a stool while sitting to prop them up. These are just a few of what you can do to help reduce the swelling.
This is one of the most annoying parts of the symptoms of pregnancy in the first month for me. I barely was able to sit still for so long without visiting the ladies’every other minute. This is inevitable as you will constantly feel the pressure on your bladder, even with the smallest drink. Never at this point be tempted to cut down on your water intake, because it is important to stay hydrated.
