The level of customer service they provided was far and away better than any other US carrier in the main cabin. Hot towels and mints before arrival on every flight, a choice of brand name snacks (similar to JetBlue but with somewhat more variety), and incredibly friendly, caring staff members that obviously enjoyed their jobs and wanted to be there. The experience was like B6 on steroids without the PTVs.
In a way though, I guess you could say they were doomed to fail. The CRJs were gas guzzlers and the company expanded extremely quickly and over-added capacity in markets where it made little sense to do so (think ALB-IAD 7x/day). I smelled trouble when the A319s were delivered without the promised PTVs (something to do with a lower lease payment from Airbus) and one of the CRJs were repossessed.
